The challenge

A fragmented supplier network and zero real-time visibility across 200+ carriers was costing FreightAxis $4M annually in reactive firefighting.

FreightAxis coordinates freight movement for 340 manufacturing clients across North America. Their operations ran on a patchwork of carrier portals, email threads, and spreadsheets — with no single view of where goods were, when they'd arrive, or which shipments were at risk. The business was growing, but the infrastructure wasn't. Maple & Chen designed and built a unified supply chain visibility platform from the ground up.

Our approach

1

Carrier data integration

We built an integration layer connecting 200+ carrier APIs, EDI feeds, and manual check-in workflows into a unified event stream. Every shipment status — picked, in transit, delayed, delivered — feeds into a single real-time data model regardless of source format.

2

Predictive delay engine

A machine learning model trained on 3 years of shipment history and external signals (weather, port congestion, carrier performance) predicts delays 48–72 hours ahead with 87% accuracy. Operations teams receive proactive alerts — not reactive notifications after a miss.

3

Client-facing visibility portal

Manufacturing clients get a white-labelled portal with real-time shipment tracking, exception alerts, and on-time delivery reporting. Reducing inbound 'where is my shipment?' calls was one of the core briefs — and call volume dropped 71% within 60 days of launch.

4

Operations dashboard

Internal dispatch teams work from a single screen: prioritised exception queues, carrier performance scorecards, and a live network map. Custom KPI thresholds trigger escalations automatically — no manual monitoring required.

Before the platform, we had 12 people whose full-time job was chasing carrier updates. Now those people run exception management — a completely different level of strategic work.
